Water Timer

About

An architectural piece based on ancient Egyptian water clock principles. We have decorated our water timer with rusted/oxidised copper sheets and moss to give an impression of an industrial/post-apocalyptic setting. The timer starts by letting water out of the large (tall) tank. The water then flows into a Shishi Odoshi which transfers it into a smaller container holding a pole with a ping pong ball at the top. The slow movement of the shishi odoshi and the sound it produces creates an almost hypnotising effect. Finally, in approximately 20 seconds (±1 second) the ball rises to the pusher and is pushed into a small container where it produces a sound to indicate the end of the 20 seconds.
